Time is a relevant concept. As relevant as its size, and the least countable. No matter how hard we try to define it, no matter how many numbers we use to wrap Time, it always slips like sand… It vanishes like thin air and then laughs at us… How long does a day in a city, last? How long does it last away from it? I rushed to an answer according to the dimensions we chose to rule our lives; Hours, Minutes, seconds…
Time, as a primordial Judge, contradicted my rationality and degraded my conclusion.
Time can only be defined by itself… I attempted, I experienced and I compared. There are secret rules, at the game of Time. There are unexpected parameters and no matter how hard you try, you never join the game.
You may hurry and run, but you will not join it… Time, as a ghost above our heads, along with the ghost of the Island watch us trying our best, and smile in a strange way. They share the same view, of us. Watching us trying hard, trying to fit everything in 24 hours, because, that’s the way we were taught… The Capital has the temper of an old Diva, who allows us to glance her deeper in, just enough to make us addicted to her.
In this way we learn to deal with everything in a hurry and with the worry of lack of time. We beg Time to give us an extra hour or two, in a day.
And just when you wonder for how longer are you going to run after your shadow, Time will listen to your wishes, and will grand you with those extra hours you prayed for...But for a reason you can’t define, this doesn’t look so important anymore… And at that moment you realize that instead of driving your car at the big streets of the Capital, you cycle along the beach, at Spetses! Suddenly, the day is longer, and in just a few hours you deal efficiently with things that used to take days. Everything is easier and you can handle it in less time. You are surprised, because the reason of this is not profound.
As far as you remember, Spetses Island is at the same longitude with the rest of Greece, so why does Time rebel? Is there a secret Time Zone over this land or is it just another game of our brain? You realize that you are experiencing what you wished for and you regret every single wish you made for extra time in your day… Nevertheless, this time you remain silent. You know by now that the Ghost of Time and the Ghost of the Island will listen carefully to your next wish, and if you look above you will see these two smiling sarcastic…
